On September 7 and 8, SOCES students packed Center Circle for the annual Club Daze! Students of all grades came together to showcase their interests and to establish a sense of school community in the early stages of the year. Club Daze took place over the span of 2 days, and both days were busy and very successful for everyone who showed up.

This year’s clubs show a vast array of interests and activities that are going to be great additions to the SOCES Campus. From the 3D Modeling Club to the Penguin Club to Triple Crochet, all student interests were on display at Club Daze! There are also a multitude of clubs that have gained recognition on the national level and are part of in-state and national organizations, such as the California Scholarship Federation, Key Club, Science Bowl, Students Run LA, and UNICEF.

“The experience of running a club is something that everybody should try,” says Sydney Frank, grade 12, current cabinet member of the Black Student Union. When asked about her experience during Club Daze, she said, “It was amazing to see how many people came and signed up from all different backgrounds and how excited everybody was to learn what our club was about.” When asked what she would say to those who would like to run a booth in the future, Sydney said, “It’s a great experience contributing to our school community and it’s definitely something that everybody should do to really feel like a contributing member of SOCES.”

Even further than the Black Student Union, SOCES clubs offer many options for clubs that are meant to empower, inspire, and unite students from the same ethnic and racial backgrounds. Clubs like this that are functioning this year and had a great amount of sign-ups at Club Daze include Armenian Club, Filipino Student Union, Jewish Student Union, Korean Club, and Latinos Unidos. While these clubs are focused on their own groups and identifications, everybody on campus is free to join and learn about the cultures that make SOCES a melting pot of diversity!

Other clubs that established themselves at Club Daze also drive to inspire social change and push students to bring positive enforcement to the SOCES campus and beyond. Clubs with this mission include Be the Change, Books for Youth, Campus Beautification Club, Positivity Club, Women Empowerment Club, and Youth in the Valley.

While Club Daze takes place in the early weeks of the school year, it sets an important tone of community that carries through the year. With the vast array of clubs and interests, there is definitely something for everybody in this year’s SOCES clubs!
