Science Buildings: A New Campus

By: Sophia May ‘24

After six years of continuous construction, the SOCES campus has finally brought down the eyesore of fences and tarps around school in order to show off our brand new, stunning campus! And to think, it was only a few years ago that we saw the demolition of whole classrooms in preparation for our new campus.

Before the current year, students and faculty saw the completion of four different projects, including a new lunch court shelter, a new gymnasium building, a field house, and an elementary building equipped with 13 new classrooms. These new facilities have only been in use for about two years, following the full-time return back to campus after COVID-19 kept us in our homes. This year students and faculty welcome greater additions to the school environment, including two brand new science buildings.

With the opening of new classrooms and buildings, many teachers have moved from both temporary and previously occupied rooms. In the first building, the “New Science Building East,” many science teachers have moved into new science lab rooms. It is in this building that students will find subjects like Chemistry, Physics, and Biology being taught.

Over in the other building, known as the “New Science Building West,” students will find subjects other than just science being taught in the classrooms. Subjects like Culinary, Band, and more now reside in the building, where the facilities are a step up compared to their previous classrooms.

Though there are students and staff who have been around since before construction was even started, the updated status provides everyone with an opportunity to experience a whole new learning environment. Students who have only been with SOCES for a year or two never had the chance to witness the old campus, but now they can share the experience of a brand new campus with the SOCES charter members.

Now, as people settle into the new school year, the excitement surrounding our new campus will slowly fade away. However, the excitement will come back, hopefully soon, when students and faculty see the completion of not only the renovated administration building and elementary playground, but also a modernized auditorium.
