SOCES Construction

With the start of the new school year, new and returning students were welcomed with new areas that were under construction last spring. As construction continued into this school year, students returned to landscaping being done at the front of the school and center circle being closed off due to sewer line replacements. 

This project was approved by our construction managers. Mr. Supinger explained that the sewer lines were old and had to be replaced along with Mr. Contreras who explained the project would be completed by August 29th. Mr. Supinger also stated that the cooling systems within the new buildings are being redone and the auditorium sound and lighting systems are still being commissioned. He later went on to say that both the auditorium and cooling systems will be finished by mid September. 

Some notable changes that were done at the front of the school would be the new plants that were added around the SOCES sign and the old counciling buildings being taken down along with the main office and nurse’s office. The new counseling, nurse, and office buildings were relocated to the front of the school and are now straight in front of the library.

When asked about what was wrong with the sewer system, Mr. Supinger replied that the sewer system was made back in 1950 when the school was built. He then stated that the systems were supposed to be replaced 4 years ago but “it was not included in the comprehensive modernization contract to keep costs down.” Now all that’s left to do is wait and hope that center circle is opened in time for water balloon tosses and other thrilling events like pep-rallies, chess tournaments, and more.

Once the auditorium remodel is fully complete, students can expect to see plays, assemblies, concerts, and possibly other events. Maybe the next senior talent show could be in the auditorium. Who knows what ASB and the senior committee are planning to do with the auditorium! For all the students who have been waiting for 2 years to see the work they have done in the auditorium, get ready! It should open very soon. And for the new students, we hope you enjoy the amazing plays, concerts, or talent shows that will be held in the auditorium in the future.
