SOCES Sports Recap 10/12

By: Oscar Orellana '24

This past Thursday, October 12, proved to be a momentous day for SOCES sports as the fall teams enter the second half of their seasons.

The Knights football team played East Valley away from home for their 4th league game of the season. They won big with a final score of 38-14, putting them above .500 for the first time this season, with a record of 4-3. Also with this win, the Knights clinched the playoffs in their first season in 4 years. Congratulations to the football team and make sure to support them for their upcoming playoff games when the dates are confirmed!

Also on Thursday, Girls Volleyball had their Senior Night. They unfortunately lost by a score of 3 sets to 0 to league leaders Vaughn, but it was still a proper send off for seniors Kristine Aleksanyan, Kayden Meisenheimer, Melania Djuga, Melanie Bonilla, and Samantha Briones. The Lady Knights team look forward to their playoffs as well, which begin soon as there is only 1 regular season game left coming up on Monday!

Another Lady Knights team that had their Senior Night on Thursday was Girls Tennis! They went up against Grant at Pierce College, and they recorded the win to improve to 5-5 on the season. Coach Lim’s team celebrated their pair of seniors Francesca Iannone and Naiya Burden as their season nears its close. Congratulations Ladies!

The last team who had action on Thursday was Cross Country. Coach Joel’s team raced their 3rd meet of the season against league rivals East Valley, where the JV boys team got the win. Unfortunately, Boys and Girls Varsity and Girls JV ran very close races but lost by a tight margin. Halfway through the season now, the team is getting better and better every week. They take on Northridge Academy next week at Pierce College, as well as the Bell Gardens Invitational this Saturday!

As the fall sports season progresses, the excitement is building up for a lot of teams and student-athletes on campus. As always, make sure to support all of the fall sports as they go for championship wins in the coming weeks!
