SOCES Sports Update: Week of 10/2

By: Oscar Orellana '24

SOCES Sports started off October strong, with Girls Volleyball, Girls Tennis, Cross Country, Flag Football, and Football all playing this week. For starters, Girls Volleyball resumed league play after their weekend tournament with a win against Northridge Academy on Monday, 3 sets to none. They traveled to Fulton on Thursday, but unfortunately lost by the same score. The Lady Knights currently sit at a record of 13-7 and sit 4th in the league standings. Girls Tennis had a lot of action this week, starting with home games at Pierce College on Monday and Wednesday vs. Verdugo Hills and Oakwood, respectively. The team beat Verdugo Hills 6 sets to 1, but lost 5-2 to Oakwood. Coach Lim’s team looks to get back on the right track this Friday away at Verdugo Hills once more. They currently sit at 5-4 and 4th in the league.

SOCES Cross Country also had their second meet of the season on Thursday, October 5th! They faced VAAS, with all 4 teams taking the win. It was an extremely hot and tough day to run, but Coach Joel rallied his team to a win. They look forward to next week’s highly anticipated meet against East Valley. The Flag Football team only had one matchup this week against Valor Academy away on Monday, where the Lady Knights unfortunately lost both games. They look forward to Monday’s games against Alliance Marine and Sun Valley Magnet. Last but not least, Football has their 6th game of the season this Friday, October 6th, against Discovery Prep. The Knights currently sit at 2-3 on the season and look to win and get back to a .500 winning percentage as they enter the back half of the season. Make sure to come out and support all of the SOCES Fall Sports!
