Football: SOCES vs. Discovery Prep 10/6

By: Oscar Orellana '24

Week 6 saw the Knights come back home to take on Discovery Prep. Fresh off of a big 64-30 win against VOCES away, Coach Ross’ team looks to continue their newly found momentum. The Knights started the game off on defense, and a fumble on Discovery Prep’s first drive saw the offense take the field only a couple of plays into the game. A big run that bounced to the outside saw the Knights sneak into the red zone. This resulted in another rushing touchdown by sophomore running back Daniel Truong put the Knights on top 16-0 coupled with the subsequent 2 point conversion. Once the Knights established this rhythm, they never looked back.

A Discovery Prep turnover on downs on the next drive gave the Knights back the ball, where Truong noted his second touchdown of the night, with a big rush of about 20 yards. The resulting 2 point conversion was good as well, putting the Knights up 16-0. A pair of drives later, Discovery Prep stretched the length of the field to open up the scoring on their side. However, a touchdown by junior wide receiver Evan Venegas canceled out Discovery Prep’s progression. The halftime score tallied SOCES 20, Discovery Prep 6.

The second half was ALL Knights. A kick return touchdown to open up the half by junior star Fudail Burns shifted the momentum purely to SOCES the entire half. A quick fumble recovery on the subsequent drive saw the Knights take the scoring opportunity to put themselves up 42-6 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. One more touchdown late put the Knights up 48-6, which turned out to be the final score.

With this massive win, the Knights Football team moved to 3-3 on the season. They look forward to their next game on Thursday at East Valley. The team hopes that this momentum will push them to get over .500 for the first time this season with a win on Thursday. The Knights next home game will be the Homecoming game on October 27 against Fulton. Make sure to support the team as they enter the home stretch of the season!
