The LAUSD Union has announced a three-day strike for the week of March 20th which will result in the school’s closure leaving instruction, sports, and senior activities at a halt.
Wednesday night, the LAUSD Union set forth the expected dates of the strike: March 21st to 23rd. School is expected to close due to the teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, staff members, and custodians leaving on strike. The possibility of the sudden closure of school leaves SOCES students, teachers, and staff wondering how the strike will affect the school’s upcoming agenda.
The Senior Talent Show was expected to be on Thursday, March 23rd; however, with the possibility of the strike the senior cabinet has decided to postpone the date to Friday, April 28th.
The senior class sponsors, Ms. Pak and Ms. Brard, assures that the talent show will not get canceled because of the hard work the Talent Show committee and participants have put in to make this event possible.
“I’m glad that the talent show was postponed, because dance production needed more time to prepare for our dance performance,” states Ann A.
Senior, Jonathan Castro, states, “Honestly I don’t really mind the postpone. It just gives me more time to experiment and practice for my act”.
The annual 12th grade panorama and overhead picture is scheduled for Thursday morning; however, under the assumption that the strike will happen the pictures will be postponed. The senior overhead picture is scheduled for March 29, 2023. Also postponed, are the 5th and 8th grade panorama pictures that were originally scheduled for the 23rd of March. We don’t know when they will be rescheduled but the classes will find out soon. Additionally, any sports games scheduled to take place next week will be rescheduled soon.
