Why should you join the Academic Pentathlon?

Attention middle schoolers! Academic Pentathlon is looking for students who are interested in competitive athletics. Academic Pentathlon is a middle-school version of high school Academic Decathlon where students study subjects such as fine arts, mathematics, history, science, and literature. All of these subjects revolve around a new theme each year, and the theme for this year’s academic competitions is “Journeys of Transformation: An Exploration of Travel and Transportation.”

The students this year will also read a book that will also help them in the competitions. The book the students are reading this year is “Percy Jackson.” Ms. Kaur, the sponsor of the Academic Pentathlon, explains that students are given the chance to teach the class about a certain topic or subject that they were assigned so that students can learn the material together, rather than learning 5 subjects on their own. By joining Academic Pentathlon, students will expose themselves to rigorous, but manageable coursework that also prepares them for classes they may take in the future. Ms. Kaur also stated, “Some material will be stuff that students are already learning in class or certain subjects they will be exposed to in high school, such as literature.” Academic Pentathlon is highly beneficial for students who are interested in competitive academics that teaches them important skills such as teamwork and multitasking that can prepare them for their futures.
